The PlayStation (or PS1) is a home video game console developed and marketed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The PS1 was released on September 9, 1995 in North America and was the first in the PlayStation lineup. Though some complained about the introduction of load times, it outsold its cartridge game competitors, set the standard for optical disc-format games and increased the push and expectations for 3D graphics in gaming.
