Kirby’s Dream Land was released on the Game Boy in 1992, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. It is both the first video game in the Kirby series and the debut of Kirby himself, which is interesting because the whole franchise started from a Game Boy game… that’s pretty awesome. However, Kirby’s trademark “copy” trick didn’t actually appear until Kirby’s Adventure (on the SNES).

The game was intended it to be a simple game that could be easy to pick up and play even by those unfamiliar with actions games, and it is. Seriously, if you just want to sit down and relax with a game, this one is pretty great. You can knock it out in like an hour or two if you know what you’re doing. Now that might be a drawback for most games, but this still manages to be fun and just challenging enough to keep your interest. Not to mention, the characters, mini-bosses, bosses and stages are all fun, unique and dear I say it… so damn cute. Strangely enough though, one of my favorite parts of this game is the music. I like it so much I actually have the whole soundtrack on my iTunes. I probably shouldn’t have let the world know that.

Pros:

So, if you haven’t played this one, pick it up, it’s really easy to get into. You’ll enjoy its balance of a reliable, straight-forward gameplay while still changing it up and challenging you just enough to leave you feeling satisfied.

Cons:

Conclusion:

Kirby’s Dream Land is a Gameboy must, maybe even a Retro Nerd must… maybe.
